SAINT-ETIENNE, France — The Canadian Olympic Committee says it is “considering appeal rights” after Canada’s women’s soccer team was demoted six points following FIFA’s ruling over a drone spying scandal at the Paris Olympics.

FIFA also imposed one-year bans on three coaches, including head coach Bev Priestman, and fined Canada Soccer approximately C$313,000.

Before the two teams played their first match last Thursday, which Canada won 2-1, two assistant coaches were caught using drones to spy on New Zealand’s training.

Canada Soccer was held responsible for failing to ensure its staff complied with tournament rules.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has a Special Olympics Tribunal in Paris, set up for direct hearings and decision-making during the Games.
