First round match between Canada and Uruguay in the battle for third place Copa America 2024 ended in a 1-1 draw.
Canada vs Uruguay in the battle for third place in the Copa America 2024 took place at the Bank of America Stadium, Sunday (14/7) morning WIB.
In the eighth minute, Uruguay managed to take the lead thanks to a shot from Rodrigo Bentancur.
In the 13th minute, chaos broke out after Bentancur fouled Canadian player Jonathan Osorio. Bentancur appeared to be at odds with the Canadian players.
In the 18th minute, Uruguayan winger Maximiliano Araujo threatened the Canadian defense. However, his shot was still blocked by the Canadian goalkeeper.
In the 21st minute, Canadian forward Tani Oluwaseyi made a mistake and took a corner. From that corner, Canadian player Ismael Kone scored an aerial goal without looking at the goal. Kone freed himself to escape the offside trap, then followed up his partner’s header to somersault and score.
In the 24th minute, Facundo Pellestri managed to get into Canada’s goal. However, the goal was disallowed because it was initially offside.
In the 37th minute, Uruguay threatened Canada’s goal. However, Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez’s free kick still bounced slightly over the bar.
In the 40th minute, it was Canadian Jonathan Osorio’s header that hit the crossbar and only resulted in a corner.
In the 44th minute, Osorio threatened the Uruguayan goal again. Osorio’s shot was blocked by the Uruguayan goalkeeper. Then, the rebound was headed by Osorio, but it was pushed away by Uruguayan Nahitan Nandez who made a brilliant save.
There were no further goals scored until the end of the first half. Canada vs Uruguay ended 1-1 in the first half.
