F1 News: Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes some of the upgrades to the W14 car the team will make at Silverstone and ahead of the season break can help them win.
Since making significant improvements at the Monaco Grand Prix, Mercedes have started to show their assets. The German manufacturer has won successive double podiums in Barcelona and Montreal.
They were able to overcome the weaknesses of the W14 car so that it was more predictable and stable on the brakes, boosting the confidence of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Top speed and Drag Reduction System (DRS) performance are their two best parts, surpassing even that of Red Bull Racing.
Another area the car has improved is low-speed cornering traction. It was a request from Hamilton after he praised the Red Bull RB19 car at the Canadian GP.
With plans to make major upgrades to the British Grand Prix and another series ahead of the summer break, The Silver Arrow is increasingly confident to chase Die Roten Bullen and fight for victory.
“We’re just one step away from victory,” an unnamed team engineer said, as reported by AMuS.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has so far been pleased with the performance of the W14 car. He admitted to learning many changes to their ground jet concept.
“Since we changed the concept of the car, we have learned a lot. The correlation between the simulation and the track is much better. We are now implementing this step by step,” said Wolff.
