Daniel Ricciardo relieved to score points at Canadian F1GP

F1 News: Daniel Ricciardo was all smiles after scoring his first Grand Prix points of 2024 in an action-packed wet and dry race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday, saying he “needed it” after a difficult start to the season.

Daniel Ricciardo has consistently outperformed RB team-mate Yuki Tsunoda at the start of the campaign, with one of the Australian’s few highlights coming fourth in both Sprint Qualifying and the race session in Miami.

However, a lot of hard work behind the scenes paid off in Canada, where Ricciardo showed good pace throughout the weekend to qualify fifth and finish eighth – adding to RB’s sixth place in the constructors’ standings.

It came despite a five-second penalty for a jump start and a points-paying position in a frenetic race that took place in wet conditions and eventually finished dry under more rain.

Asked to reflect on the result, and whether it was bittersweet to finish eighth after starting from fifth, Ricciardo replied: “Yeah, I think so. A bit of relief at the end to get some points back – we’ve been out for a while.”

“Several reasons… It’s strange, because I was told I had a five-second penalty for the jump start, but I knew I didn’t start quickly, so I was a little confused.”
