Defeat the Titanic, the biggest ship in the world ready to sail 2024

Surabaya (beritajatim.com) – Royal Caribbean International will soon launch the largest ship in the world, Icon of the Seas, in 2024. This good news was confirmed by the company after the completion of the construction of the ship in Turku, Finland. This magnificent cruise liner also underwent successful open water trials on June 22.

In an official statement released by Royal Caribbean International, it was stated that during her first sea trials, Icon of the Seas traveled hundreds of miles testing various aspects including main engine, hull, braking system , steering, sound levels and vibration. All of these tests have been successfully completed.

The Icon of the Seas cruise ship is approximately 365 meters long. This makes it one of the longest ships in the world. It is estimated to weigh over 250,000 tons, which is equivalent to two CN towers in Canada. The luxury vessel is expected to accommodate around 5,610 passengers with 2,350 crew members when it sails through Caribbean waters in January 2024.

One of the cool features of Icon of the Seas is the largest ocean water park in the world. The ship will offer six water slides, seven indoor pools and nine hot tubs to provide an unforgettable experience for its passengers.

The Meyer Turku shipyard, one of the main European shipbuilders based in Finland, is in charge of the construction of this vessel.

Icon of the Seas is the “sister” of another cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean, namely Wonder of the Seas. Wonder of the Seas made its maiden voyage in 2022.

A culmination of cruise line evolution, Icon of the Seas uses the latest technology and incorporates 50 years of learning throughout the company’s history.

Interestingly, this ship is also the first Royal Caribbean International ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel cell technology. This is the company’s step to support the use of clean energy in the future. (mind/nap)
