Tennis News: Canadian tennis player, Denis Shapovalov is once again an ATP Tournament runner-up after stepping into the final of the Korea Open, Seoul 2022 season.
The fourth seed showed tenacious play to beat American Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-4 in the Korea Open semi-final.
Aggressively, the world No. 24 attacked eighth seed Brooksby dismissing 24 winners in a match that lasted 1 hour 35 minutes to advance to a fifth career final and first since the Stockholm Open in November last season.
“I’m very happy with my performance this time around,” Shapovalov said. “Jenson is a very good opponent and I’m happy to win and be in the final.”
The Canadian came back after falling behind with a break in the first set against Brooksby, 21, and he is yet to drop a set at the Korea Open. He will be looking to continue that streak and claim the second title of his career when he takes on Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the final.
The 23-year-old tennis player Shapovalov still has a title he won in Stockholm in the 2019 season. Earlier this season he made it to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and enjoyed the semi-finals in Dubai.
While Brooksby is targeting a third season finale this week after advancing to finals in Dallas and Atlanta, he has yet to overcome the fourth seed’s good game.
Elsewhere, Nishioka had to do his best before eliminating American Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to advance to a second final of the 2022 season.
Nishioka, who reached the final in Washington (losing to Nick Kyrgios) in August, committed just five unforced errors to defeat Kovacevic in 1 hour 54 minutes.
Nishioka, 27, has now moved up 11 places to 45th in the world and will be aiming for a second career title after his last victory in Shenzhen in 2018.
