Tennis News: Swiss tennis player Dominic Stricker picked up his first win at the Next Gen ATP Finals, Season 2022 from Milan.
The seventh seed managed to find a winning formula to beat third seed Jack Draper 4-3, 4-3, 4-3 in the first game of the Red Group Next Gen ATP Finals.
The 20-year-old put in a stunning serve performance inside the Allianz Cloud, swinging a superb left-handed serve to propel Briton Draper further down the court. He also fired 14 aces, showing a nice touch in the net and holding serve in crucial moments before claiming victory on 88 minutes.
This week, Swiss tennis player Stricker made his debut in the Next Gen ATP Finals. But he didn’t need much time to adapt to the innovations and regulations imposed by a competition aimed at men aged 21 or under.
The tennis player who squandered four match point chances at 2-3 in the third set with a serve into the hands of Draper, is now 1-0 down in the red group. The player, who uses an impressive forehand to dictate the points, will take on host Lorenzo Musetti, who also picked up his first group stage win, while Draper takes on Chun Hsin Tseng.
Earlier this season, world number 111 Stricker won two Challenger titles held in Cleveland, USA and Zug, Switzerland, finished second in the Challenger event held in Columbus, USA , and has four wins over the top 40 players. He was unlucky at the Grand Slams after failing to qualify for all four Grand Slams this season.
Meanwhile, Draper started the season ranked 265th in the world but arrived in Milan with the highest ranking of his career to date, 41st in the world. The 20-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal (losing to Pablo Carreno Busta) before beating Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime en route to the third round of the US Open (losing to Karen Khachanov).
