For more than six decades, actor Donald Sutherland has enjoyed a successful career in film and television.
His accolades include an honorary Oscar, a Companion of the Order of Canada and a few Golden Globes. But it turns out his biggest achievement is his most recent honor: a Canada Post stamp in his image.
“When they showed me this stamp, I felt that everything came together” Sutherland said QTom Power on Zoom from. “I really wished that [my mother] I could have seen myself. You know, when you’re 88 years old – almost 89 years old – it means a lot, a stamp, because you grew up writing letters…. The stamp for me is everything, quite simply everything!”
Looking back on his life and career, the Canadian icon said the stamp was the thing he was most proud of.
“This applies everywhere in this country and abroad,” Sutherland said. “It gave me letters. They went everywhere. I love it. It means so much to me.”
According to Sutherland, his fans have already put the stamp to good use. “People sent me letters just because they wanted to send me a letter with my stamp on it,” he said.
