Soft wooden or silicone spatulas are ideal for avoiding scratching the coating of pots and pans, while metal spatulas are too abrasive and plastic can pose a risk as it can melt.

Maker explains that if a pan is heated to high heat and then cooled very quickly, then immediately removes the pan from the heat and places it in the sink with soap and water, the bottom can warp.
