“For the first time in over 15 years they let the OG come back to Canada,” Drake, 37, wrote on Monday, January 15, while sharing a photo of his father, Dennis Graham, to her Instagram story. In the photo, Dennis posed next to his ex (and Drake’s mother) Sandy Graham. Dennis, 69, and Sandi, 63, sported OVO merchandise, with Drake’s dad flashing a smile for the camera.
“Thank you to everyone who helped us,” Drake added, tagging his father’s account.
Drake did not explain why his father was unable to visit him in Canada, apparently for legal reasons. Dennis has reportedly been in and out of Drake’s life due to run-ins with the law (Drake has a tattoo of Dennis’ photo), although the elder Graham has denied the “absent father” allegations.
“I’ve always been with Drake,” Dennis said during a 2019 episode. Nick Cannonthe radio show “Close Conversations”. “I talk to him, if not every day, then at least every other day. And we really had an in-depth conversation about it. I said, ‘Drake, why are you saying all that about me, man? Like, that’s not cool. Drake later said he was “hurt” by his father, claiming he made up his lyrics for influence. “My father will say anything to anyone who will listen. It’s sad when family is like this, but what can we really do? These are the people we’re stuck with,” the rapper wrote on an IG story. “Every bar I spit out was the truth and the truth is hard for some people to accept.”
Despite their ups and downs, Drake and his father have a strong relationship. In 2019, Dennis said Us every week exclusively how fatherhood had changed his son. Drake and ex-girlfriend Sophie Brussaux welcomed their son, Adonis, in 2017. “It’s all new [for Drake]” Dennis said at the time. “I’ve seen them interact together and it’s beautiful.”
