Drivers Norris and Alonso lead FP1-FP2 session of 2024 Canadian GP – ANTARA News Yogyakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) – McLaren driver Lando Norris and Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso led the free practice (FP) sessions 1 and 2 of the Canadian Grand Prix held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Saturday WIB, respectively.

In the first practice session, Norris, who recorded the fastest time of 1 minute 25.435 seconds, was ahead of the Ferrari duo of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc by a time margin of 0.328 seconds and 0.871 seconds respectively.

Behind them are reigning champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), as well as Norris’ team-mate Oscar Piastri.

Moving into the second practice session which was more difficult due to heavy rain in Montreal, Alonso set a best lap of 1min 15.810sec to beat Mercedes’ George Russell by 0.462sec in a session which saw Red Bull’s three-peat with reigning world champion Verstappen struggling again.

The Dutchman managed just four laps and jumped out of his smoking car in the pits midway through the session, leaving little clue as to what would happen in qualifying or the main race.

Local driver Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) finished third, just ahead of Leclerc, Daniel Ricciardo (RB), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Hamilton.
