Jakarta, tvOnenews.com – There were some interesting things during Canada’s match against France at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, at Indonesia Arena, on Friday (25/8/2023).
The match managed to break the record for the largest attendance for an indoor sports match ever held in Indonesia at 12,091 spectators.
“More than 12,000 is a record number of indoor spectators for a sports match held in the country. We are proud that basketball can attract so many spectators and fill the arena,” said the secretary general of the committee of local organization of the FIBA World Cup 2023. (LOC) Junas Miradiarsyah quoted in an official statement.
The attendance record for indoor sports is also a record for basketball. Prior to the existence of Indonesia Arena, the largest indoor basketball stadium owned by Indonesia was at Britama Arena Kelapa Gading Jakarta with a capacity of 5,000 spectators.
The 12,091 spectators who filled the Indonesia Arena for Friday night’s game is the maximum capacity of the stadium used for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.
Even though the total capacity of the Indonesia Arena has reached 16,500, the seats have been reduced for coverage and broadcast needs such as media stands, so there are only 12,000 of more.
Junas hopes that the public’s enthusiasm will remain high until the end of the preliminary matches at the Indonesia Arena on September 3. He said the committee will continue to try to improve service to the public based on feedback from various parties.
