Badminton News: Continental champions China, Denmark, Canada, Australia and Egypt are among the 16 teams that will contest the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup 2023 to be held in Suzhou from May 14-21.

China, the winners of the Asian Championship, Denmark (European champion), Canada (Pan Am), Australia (Oceania) and Egypt (Africa) have reserved their places for the World Championships by mixed teams, plus three other semi-finalists from Asia and Europe. Thus, Korea, India and Thailand (semi-finalists in Asia) as well as France, England and Germany (semi-finalists in Europe) will be among the contenders in Suzhou.

The remaining 16 qualifiers, namely Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Singapore, take their places based on team ranking (the cumulative ranking points of their best players in each of the five categories).

China will be aiming for a record 13th title. The only other teams to have won the Sudirman Cup are Indonesia in its first edition in 1989 and four-time champions Korea, which won the title in 1991, 1993, 2003 and 2017.

The 16 qualified for the 2023 Sudirman Cup have confirmed their participation.
