Severe weather in parts of Canada has caused flooding and power outages in several areas, including Toronto, Mississauga and the Township of North Dumfries. Environment Canada issued several weather warnings Saturday, including a rainfall warning and a severe thunderstorm warning. In Toronto, very heavy rain continued until 3:08 p.m., with precipitation amounts ranging from 100 to 200 mm. Mississauga is also experiencing heavy rain that is expected to continue this afternoon and Sunday, according to Environment Canada. In Waterloo Region, emergency services provided support across the region “following a tornado warning and reports of a tornado impacting the Township of North Dumfries,” according to a news release from Waterloo Regional Police. “At approximately 11 a.m., police responded to reports of a tornado that had touched down in the area of Greenfield Road, between Northumberland Street and Trussler Road in Ayr,” the statement said. “Several homes and businesses in the area sustained property damage, and several trees and power lines were downed.” According to Waterloo Regional Police, approximately 3,000 customers in Ayr were without power due to the storm. “There were no reports of physical injuries in North Dumfries Township or Waterloo Region due to the tornado and severe weather conditions,” the statement said. The Mississauga Fire Department said in an X-rated article that firefighters were assisting pedestrians in flooded areas. There are also some road closures. “Several roads have experienced localized flooding. Stay safe and plan your route carefully,” the Mississauga Fire Department said. Toronto Pearson Airport experienced service disruptions Saturday due to weather conditions. “Due to a disruptive storm system at Toronto Pearson Airport this afternoon for an extended period of time, there have been numerous flight diversions and ground delays, resulting in significant impact to passengers,” Toronto Pearson Airport posted on X. “Travelers are advised to check with their airline before departing for the airport.
