Sports League – F1 News: One of the drivers of the Renault Formula 1 team, Nicholas Lativi, will not participate in the free practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. However, as a Renault driver, the young man from Toronto, Canada, will take part in at least one FP1 session this season.
Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi will not take part in Friday’s Free Practice 1 at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal next month.
The Toronto native was not supposed to get behind the wheel of one of the Renault F1 RS 16s on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal on June 10.
On Thursday, the 20-year-old driver completed his first test with the Renault Sport Formula 1 team at Silverstone in England. The Canadian managed to complete 140 laps of the British circuit behind the wheel of the E20 F1 car powered by a 2012 Renault V8 (born Lotus).
“There has been no announcement as to where Nicholas will lead FP, but I can confirm it will not be in Montreal,” a spokesperson for Latifi’s management team told media.
“Nicholas will not participate in the FP1 session in Montreal. This is a decision that was made for practical reasons due to the proximity of the Canadian Grand Prix for the third round of the GP2 series in Baku a week later.
“This is an important moment for Nicholas as it is the start of his first full season in the GP2 Series and that is where his focus needs to be at the moment.
“Nicholas will take part in at least one more EP1 session this season as part of his role as test driver for the Renault Sport Formula 1 team and we hope to provide more details on this soon.”
