Leaguesports – F1 News: The Renault team has confirmed that Jolyon Palmer will have a new chassis for this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix after his old chassis was damaged in a crash at the last Monaco Grand Prix.
Palmer was one of the first casualties of the race in Monte Carlo, losing control of the RS16 at a pedestrian crossing while accelerating on lap 8 and crashing into the wall along the start/finish straight.
Although Palmer was uninjured, his monocoque suffered significant damage to the front and rear, requiring it to be replaced for the next race in Canada.
“The Jolyon incident means we will be using a new chassis in Montreal,” said Renault technical director Nick Chester.
“The car hit the barrier quite hard at an angle which damaged the front of the chassis and so we supplied a new chassis which made perfect sense to introduce.
“Fortunately, [casis yang baru] “It was built so far in advance that we only need to complete the fuel cell installation and the cables to be ready for Canada.”
Bruises on the feet
Palmer also revealed he suffered bruises to his legs in the incident which marked his first retirement of his Grand Prix career.
“We analysed the data and it seemed like the grip was lower when I crossed the white line on the zebra crossing, meaning my wheels were spinning because I was pushing too hard to accelerate,” said the British rider.
“The car went off track and I headed towards the barrier. It was just the wrong place, wrong time.
“I had a little bruise on my leg so it was just my ego but the car must have suffered.”
