World Badminton Day or World Badminton Day is celebrated every July 5th. This commemoration is an effort to bring people from diverse communities together to celebrate and promote badminton together.
“World Badminton Day is a unique opportunity for us to celebrate and promote the sport we love. I am impressed with the plans for the various activities on this World Badminton Day,” said BWF President Poul- Erik Hoyer Larsen, quoted on the official BWF website, Monday (3/3/2019). 7/2023).
The BWF launched this commemoration for the first time in 2022, making July 5 World Badminton Day.
Starting CNN, the precursor to badminton originated from an English children’s game called Battledores and Shuttlecocks, which was popular in the 1850s.
The game then spread to Asian countries. Then the British changed the name of the game to badminton in 1860.
The first badminton association in England was established in 1893. Then the first international championship was held in 1899 under the name of All England.
In later developments, England, followed by Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand and France, formed the first international organization of badminton parents in the world in 1934.
The organization is called the International Badminton Federation (IBF) which was founded on July 5, 1934. The date of establishment of the IBF is used as a reference in the date of celebration of World Badminton Day.
The IBF is the forerunner of the Badminton World Federation which in 2006 changed its name to the Badminton World Federation (BWF). This name change is the result of the agreement of 206 delegates at the Extraordinary General Assembly in Madrid, Spain.
In Indonesia, badminton originated from the influence of British rule during the colonial period. During its development, badminton later became a popular and beloved game among Indonesians.
An association focused on managing the sport of badminton was established on May 5, 1951 as the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
