Tennis News: Canadian tennis player Felix Auger Aliassime has revealed he is a fan of the hard court tournament season in the Middle East.
The world number 10 believes that Doha and Dubai are really positive places to prepare for the Masters 1000 tournament, the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. In the past two weeks, he traveled to the Middle East to play the ATP 250 level tournament in Doha, the Qatar Open and the ATP 500 level tournament in Dubai, the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The 22-year-old made it to the semi-finals in Doha while losing in the round of 16 in Dubai. In March, he must participate in two Masters 1000 tournaments organized in Indian Wells and Miami.
“I think it was a positive tournament,” Auger Aliassime said referring to the Doha and Dubai tournaments.
“I think most players in the future, if the schedule stays like this, will try to play like this because we don’t have to travel a lot between Doha and Dubai.”
“Similar conditions, which is certainly very comfortable. I want to play more against Indian Wells. I feel the conditions here, not so wet, dry, might be a bit like Indian Wells. I think the tournaments in Doha and Dubai are positive preparations for what is to come.
“Several reasons, but definitely scheduling, weather and environment are the main culprits.”
Auger Aliassime is not the first tennis player to speak positively about hard court tournaments in the Middle East.
In the WTA tournament, the tournament that took place in the Middle East featured another tournament, namely in Abu Dhabi. In February, three WTA tournaments were held in the Middle East, namely in Abu Dhabi, Doha and Dubai.
When world number 8 Daria Kasatkina was in Doha, she said having multiple tournaments in the same country or region made things a lot easier for players, as they didn’t have to worry about differences in time zone, time difference, etc.
Now Auger Aliassime, Kasatkina and a number of other big names are scheduled to host the prestigious tournament in Indian Wells and Miami.
