Francisco Cerundolo dives Felix Auger Aliassime in Miami

Tennis News: Surprising semi-finalist at the Miami Open season 2022, Francisco Cerundolo once again showed his best performance at the Miami Open season 2023.

The 25th seed managed to find a solution to claim a 6-2, 7-5 victory over fifth seed Felix Auger Aliassime in the third round of the Miami Open. She took control of the match from the start with a stunning run from the baseline against the world number 6 and fought hard late in the second set to face a comeback from the world number 6 before conclude the match in 1 hour 44 minutes.

“I’m very excited to be back in the fourth round here at the Masters 1000 tournament, in Miami,” Cerundolo said after snatching his tenth win of the 2023 season.

“I’m very happy to be playing as well as last season, very happy with my level of play, and I hope I will continue.”

The two tennis players met two weeks ago in Indian Wells third round which Canadian Auger Aliassime won in straight sets. But in the Miami encounter, the Argentine deftly capitalized on the quicker conditions in Miami to avenge the loss at Indian Wells, including constantly pressing the fifth seed with killer forehands.

Even after Auger Aliassime managed to equalize at 4-4 in the second set, the Argentine continued to attack the ball with confidence. He ended the match drawing 12 winners, more than the seven winners created by the Canadian tennis player. She also converted four of her six break point chances to claim her third victory against a top 10 player.

The 25th seed Cerundolo is now 8-1 at the Miami Open and he will be looking to add to that list when he takes on Lorenzo Sonego in the fourth round.

Italian tennis player Sonego looked impressive when he successfully defeated 12th seed Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4. Throughout the match, he dropped only five points and fired eight aces.

Quentin Halys is another tennis player enjoying a dream run in Miami this season. The Frenchwoman had never won a match in a Masters 1000 tournament before this season, but in the third round she beat home tennis player Mackenzie McDonald 7-6, 6-3.

Halys’ service was breathtaking in the first game against McDonald’s which lasted 1h41. He fired 15 aces and won 81% of the points on his first serve.

Now 8-8 in 2024, Halys will face fourth seed Daniil Medvedev who reached the fourth round without entering the court after his opponent Alex Molcan withdrew due to injury.
