General Director of Canada Basketball: Warriors prevent Andrew Wiggins from participating in the Paris Olympics | Home

The general director of the Canadian Olympic basketball team, Rowan Barrett, said Friday that land of gold blocked Andrew Wiggins to compete in Paris, in the meantime Soldier denied that it was a joint decision between the team and Wiggins.

Wiggins was among 20 players who accepted an invitation to the camp to determine the Olympic team.

“For us, Andrew is doing well,” Barrett said. “We continue to talk to him, he’s been training for weeks to get ready for this. Then I got a call from Golden State a day or two before camp saying they had him.

“So from what I see, it’s not Andrew’s decision, it’s the team’s. So he won’t be with us.

The Warriors told The Associated Press Friday night that it was a mutual decision between the team and Wiggins.

The 10-year NBA veteran last played for Canada in the 2021 Olympic qualifying tournament.

“I’m disappointed for him,” Barrett said. “He’s been through a lot the last few years and then, of course, his mom was an Olympian and it’s something he’s been looking forward to and working towards and it seems like he’s really making progress in every way.
