By monitoring changes in air pressure, speed, motion and sound, the iPhone 14 will automatically contact the local emergency services operator if it detects a car accident. It’s a nifty feature that can really save lives.

But it’s not just the iPhone 14 that has it. For Google Pixel phone users, the same feature is also available which can detect the situation of the user in case of a car accident. This feature is free.

Here is a list of Google Pixel models that have this feature:

Google Pixel 3a/XL, Google Pixel 3/XL, Google Pixel 4/XL, Google Pixel 4a, Google Pixel 5, Google Pixel 5a, Google Pixel 6/Pro and Google Pixel 6a.

The following steps are required to enable the feature:

1. insert sim card

In the event of an unfortunate car accident, make sure your Pixel has a SIM card installed so it can call emergency services. The eSIM package should work fine.

2. Open the Security app

3. Enable car crash detection

4. Using the car accident detection function

Regionally, this feature is limited to Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States.

As a user, of course, you expect this feature to always work for security. According to Google, although Pixel will always monitor changes in the environment, however collision detection success and accuracy cannot be guaranteed. For users who typically rely more on wifi connectivity than cellular cards, it seems like they have to give up if they want security features enabled. According to Google, the phone must use the cellular network for car collision detection. In some cases, if the user’s cellular connection is too weak, the Pixel device may not even have enough power to reach emergency services.
