Freeland was caught driving 132 km/h between the towns of Grande Prairie and Peace River. He paid the fine in full, said his spokeswoman Katherine Cuplinskas.
Reuters reported that the news was first reported by the Counter Signal website. Cuplinskas did not say when the incident occurred or what the speed limit was on that stretch of road. The maximum speed limit on Alberta highways is 110 km/h.
Freeland is a lawmaker representing a parliamentary constituency in the heart of Toronto, Canada’s largest city, and is often photographed on a bicycle. He often admits that he doesn’t have a car.
“What still surprises my father is that I don’t own a car,” he told reporters last month.
“I walk, I take the subway. My kids walk and bike and take the subway, it’s actually healthier for our family,” he said.
