Tennis News: Holger Rune only won one match at the China Open in Beijing in the 2023 season, which he didn’t want, but it’s not a problem for him because it’s part of the recovery process.
The Danish tennis player has been suffering from a back injury that has been bothering him for weeks and has caused him to play tennis at a lower level than his usual standards. He suffered seven consecutive defeats before finally defeating Canadian tennis player Félix Auger Aliassime in the first round of the China Open.
After breaking his losing streak, the third seed did not start a winning streak as after that he immediately lost in the second round to Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, which was certainly disappointing. He could have done more in this match, but it was proven in the match against Auger Aliassime that the third seed is still not close to his best performance.
It took time and he realized this through the posts he subsequently made via social media. The match didn’t go as planned, but that doesn’t matter since he will have another opportunity in the coming days at the Shanghai Open, one of the last two Masters 1000 tournaments of the season.
“I expect more from the China Open, but I also know that I trained less than usual before this tournament due to my recovery from a back injury. Yet, I still feel happy to be able to compete. “I liked the tournament and the support in Beijing, good luck to Grigor in the quarterfinals, while I will travel to Shanghai and start preparing for the tournament,” explained Rune.
The Shanghai Open will begin in the coming seasons, although fans do not yet know the draw as the qualifying rounds have not yet started. The Danish tennis player hopes to win a few more matches before the tournament turns into an indoor tournament in Europe.
Rune performed admirably in indoor tournaments last season and he has a lot of points to defend. So it would be a positive thing if he could play his best game. He is the defending champion of the Paris Masters by many points.
