Hot cold and thorns in the national meat before the G20 Bali

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaThe G20 Summit (Summit) will start from Tuesday to Wednesday (15-16/11/2022) in Nusa Dua, Bali. Dozens of G-20 heads of state will also sit together amidst the many frictions and tensions between them.

Although this year’s G-20 Summit bears the theme of unity Recover together, recover strongereveryone would understand if this year’s G-20 Summit were held in a less than harmonious atmosphere.

The Russian-Ukrainian war, soaring oil prices, gas problems in Europe, the Taiwan question and mutual accusations of human rights violations make this G-20 meeting an unusual meeting.

The G-20 group itself consists of 27 member countries of the European Union, United States (US) and China, South Africa, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Australia, India, Brazil, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Canada, Republic of Korea, France, Russia, China and Turkey.

From a current member of the G-20, Russia is now a “common enemy”. The United States, Japan and the European Union were among the countries that expressed their protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

These protests led to economic sanctions up to a flight ban. One of them is the decision by Japan and the European Union to stop coal imports from Russia last August.

Russia and the European Union are also at odds over gas supplies. Russia cut off and then halted total gas supply to the European Union through the Nord Stream 1 network, throwing the economic region into a state of chaos.

Relations between the European Union and Russia also simmered after the explosion of the Nord Stream 1 gas network at the end of September. The question of sabotage arose in the midst of the pipe explosion.

Natural gas prices in Europe have skyrocketed, electricity bills have skyrocketed and a number of countries have been forced into unpopular policies. One of them is to revive coal-fired power plants.

Soaring energy prices have also forced Germany to spend up to €27.5 billion to cushion the impact of rising gas prices. The UK also paid an energy subsidy budget of Rp. 2.751 trillion.

Russia is reluctant to resupply gas to the European Union until economic sanctions against the Red Bear State are lifted. On the other hand, the European Union remains categorical on the sanctions. Russia is also of course hostile to the United States because the country of Uncle Sam considers the Russian invasion of Ukraine illegal.

US President Joe Biden has even made it known that he does not wish to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Growing tension between the West and Russia has even made Putin’s presence in Bali a very big political issue.

“Previously, the question of who would attend the G-20 was actually not a controversy. However, this year, the question of the attendance of world leaders has become a very political question due to the Russian invasion of the ‘Ukraine,” the former Indonesian said. Ambassador to the United States Dino Patti Djalal, in a statement Youtube channel of the FPCI Secretariat.
