The 2023/24 Champions League will effectively enter a winter break from mid-December to mid-February, with the group stages now complete.

When is the draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League?
The draw for the round of 16 took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on Monday December 18, 2023 at 12:00 CET (6 a.m. ET).
The teams were divided into group winners and runners-up, with each runner-up drawn against a group winner.

How does the draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League take place?
The draw for the round of 16 places the group stage winners as seeded teams and the group stage runners-up as unseeded teams prior to the draw.
Each pair will involve a two-legged knockout clash with the draw for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final made on March 15, 2024.

Regulations, format of the knockout stages of the Champions League
As the top seed, the winner of the group stage will play their second leg at home, as a reward for finishing first in their group.
As part of the draw for the round of 16, teams from the same association or group from the previous round cannot compete against each other.
However, these two rules were removed from the quarter-finals onwards, with two teams from the same country no longer benefiting from separate routes.
