Indonesian women’s basketball team qualified for Top 8 at 2022 Asian Games

Surabaya (beritajatim.com) – The Indonesian women’s basketball team achieved an important victory against Mongolia with a score of 69-64 in the preliminary round of Group A of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. The victory allowed Indonesia to qualify for the last eight.

This result places the elite Indonesian women’s national team third at the end of the Group A standings, with a collection of 4 points from one win and two losses.

In the round of 16, the Indonesian women’s team will face Japan. Japan earned Group B champion status after defeating opponents such as the Philippines, Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.

Christopher Tanuwidjaja, manager of the elite women’s national team, expressed his joy at the achievement, especially because they managed to reach the top eight on the Pancasila Holiness Day.

“I really hope we can face Japan and China in this event. This is a rare opportunity for us to learn from two of the best teams in Asia. “Our initial goal is to reach the top eight, and with this achievement, the Indonesian women’s basketball team is eligible to participate in the upcoming Asian Games,” Christopher said.

However, Christopher also revealed that although they won against Mongolia, everything did not go well. Some players feel a lot of pressure, and it affects their play.

“We played with too much pressure on ourselves. Only a few players are truly ready to play optimally from the start. “The others felt under pressure and could only play more freely in the fourth quarter,” he explained.

Fortunately, Indonesia has Kimberley Pierre Louis, a naturalized Canadian player, who is Indonesia’s main point in this match. He scored 44 points and 1 rebound. Jesslyn Angelique Aritonang also contributed with 11 points and 1 rebound.

“Kimberley played with extraordinary enthusiasm for Indonesia. I hope that original Indonesian players can also have the same enthusiasm. “Let us play without undue burden or fear,” Christopher added. [way/beq]
