Jokowi receives basketball jersey number 7 in memory of Canadian Prime Minister

JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo ( Jokowi ) received a souvenir number 7 basketball jersey from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The red and white basketball jersey was presented by Justin Trudeau to Jokowi before the bilateral meeting which took place at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (05/09/2023).

The two also took a photo together holding the number seven jersey. Jokowi appeared to be wearing a black suit, while Justin wore a gray suit.

It is known that Justin Trudeau arrived in Indonesia to participate in a series of meetings during the 43rd ASEAN Summit. At around 11:35 WIB, Prime Minister Trudeau arrived at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten Province, Tuesday, September 5, 2023, and was greeted by a line of honor guards and traditional dances.

Acting Governor of Banten Al Muktabar and Deputy for Infrastructure and Transport Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Muhammad Rachmat Kaimuddin also welcomed the arrival of Prime Minister Trudeau.

During the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Trudeau expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s leadership in the region, which is considered very influential. “Prime Minister Trudeau also said that Indonesia’s leadership in the region is felt and greatly appreciated. “It really felt like last year Indonesia was chairing the G20 and this year it is chairing ASEAN,” Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said after accompanying President Jokowi to the meeting, as quoted in the BPMI Secretariat press release.

Jokowi and Prime Minister Trudeau also discussed the soon-to-be-launched ASEAN-Canada Strategic Partnership and hoped that it could soon be followed by concrete results in cooperation. Indeed, the two leaders are also very pleased with the fairly strong increase in bilateral trade in 2022.

“Trade increased by 37 percent, which exceeded pre-pandemic values. “Apart from this, the two leaders also agreed to work towards completing negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement by the end of next year, end of 2024,” Retno said.

On this occasion, President Jokowi also welcomed the formation of a bilateral working group that is expected to immediately follow up on the agreements discussed by the two leaders. Jokowi also encouraged the Pension Fund to invest in Indonesia, especially in a number of strategic infrastructure projects in Indonesia, including the development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) and a green airport in North Kalimantan.
