Basketball News World: Canadian National Team Head Coach Jordi Fernandez doesn’t want to get cocky even though his side won a landslide victory over France on Friday (8/25) local time. According to him, the win was just the start of a long FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 tournament.
In the first match, which took place at the Indonesia Arena, Canada immediately turned violent by beating France. No kidding, Canada won a landslide victory with a score of 95-65. In fact, France is one of the strongest countries in the FIBA World Cup 2023 competition. Reacting to the landslide victory, Jordi Fernandez, as captain of the Canadian national team, didn’t want to brag. He reminded his team that this victory was only the beginning of a long journey of competition.
“It’s just one win and it’s a long tournament. We understand the importance of winning every game. The most important thing now is to focus on every game,” Jordi said in an interview with the local media.
Canada’s landslide victory was due to their impressive performance, especially in the second half. In the first half, Canada and France struggled to find their best rhythm of play. Canada itself struggled to grab easy shots. Luckily for them, coach Jordi’s change of strategy in the second half paid off. Canada will now prepare for the second game against Lebanon. Even though Canada is superior in terms of strength on paper, coach Jordi is once again unwilling to take the big lead.
