F1 News: After a wasted 2023 in Canada, McLaren wants to attack in Montreal this year. However, crew chief Andrea Stella and driver Lando Norris agree: the track is difficult, the competition is tight.
When the McLaren team traveled to Canada this year, the signs were completely different from last year: McLaren fought for the podium, twice finishing 2nd in the Imola-Monaco doubleheader. Still, teams are cautious in their outlook for Montreal this weekend.
Last year, McLaren didn’t even finish in the points. Oscar Piastri finished 11th, Lando Norris 13th. The performance brilliance of the McLaren racing car came a little later at the Austrian race in 2023. This year, McLaren started strong and is regularly fighting for the podium. Lando Norris is looking forward to the race weekend, but – as he has many times this season – is cautious in his prediction.
Young British driver: “I enjoyed racing in Montreal. It’s a good track with some difficult sections which make it even more interesting. Our car has worked well on different circuits, but we know we will have a lot of work to do in Canada Our competition will probably be tough here.
Additional difficulties may be caused by the weather, which is otherwise variable. However, before the trip to Canada there was also some free time at McLaren.
“It’s nice to have a week off after the doubleheader at Imola and Monaco. We came home with two podiums and lots of points for the team. I had a productive session with my engineers at the McLaren Technology Centre,” he added.
After Canada, Formula 1 drivers will benefit from an additional week of rest before the start of the summer phase with the Barcelona-Spielberg-Silverstone triple.
