Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The SOS function via satellite of the iPhone 14 would have saved the lives of its users again. This time the story came from two women who were in Canada.
Reported Times Colonist, two women were returning home from their trip to Alberta when they got lost near McBride, a small town in British Columbia.
Using a car, the two women were forced to find alternative routes using the Google Maps app due to the closure of the main highway due to an accident.
To quote 9to5mac, Tuesday (31/1/2023), Google Maps directed them through a small road in Holmes Forrest. Unfortunately the road was only partially cleared after several snow storms.
The two women, who were unaware of the conditions, managed to travel about twenty kilometers, before hitting a “wall of snow” and getting stuck there.
Considering they were on a forest road, there was no cell service there. Fortunately, one of them has an iPhone 14, and thought of using the emergency SOS via satellite.
They then sent a message and their location to Apple’s call center, from there agents contacted “Northern911” in Canada, who then activated the call to an emergency services team in Colombia -British.
The emergency services team also received the information package provided, including GPS coordinates.
The Search and Rescue (SAR) team was deployed, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, British Columbia SAR Search Team and Robson Valley SAR Team. The two Canadians were then located using GPS coordinates.
