TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Minister in charge of the coordination of maritime affairs and investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan says Indonesia has become one of the strongest economies in the world today.
“But neither can we avoid the situation in Ukrainetensions of which it is not known when they will be resolved, are impacting food and energy,” Luhut said at the National Maritime Day event on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
Moreover, according to him, the tension between China and Taiwan also has a lot of impact on the world economy. Like it or not, he said, geopolitical conditions will also have an impact on Indonesia.
“We are grateful to date with the leadership of the President Jokowi we are still able to reduce this, but the question is how long can we?
On the other hand, he expressed his belief that Indonesia is united, a language in this very crucial situation, where the world should enter a global crisis or perfect storm.
“Yesterday I was in New York, they said the world would be going into a global crisis or a perfect storm that would happen in the near future,” he said.
Therefore, he pointed out that the government must now manage the country well. With Jokowi’s leadership, he said, if all the elements come together, they can lessen the impact of the crisis on Indonesia.
He said the Fed would raise interest rates to 4.75 by the end of the year. This will have an impact on the Indonesian economy. Indonesian inflation, he said, was still at 4.9, with core inflation at 2.8. But the state of the food is now problematic. Although inflation is quite high, Luhut said the government has cooperated to overcome the impact as instructed by President Jokowi.
“Let’s button our sleeves more efficiently, more compactly, more consistently to face the challenges we cannot avoid,” Luhut said.
According to Luhut, whether we like it or not, the crisis will come. But with what Indonesia has now, he said, the observers he met in New York gave an appreciation of Indonesia’s economic situation. In particular, the management of the Indonesian economy is considered very good.
Meanwhile, he said Indonesia’s golden goal in 2045 should be used as an impetus for maritime glory, as the country at the maritime center of the world. Luhut said global forecasts indicate that Indonesia will become one of the top four economies in the world in 2045-2050.
