Minister responsible for the coordination of maritime affairs and investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan talk about making load and unload time aliases residence time in Indonesian ports. According to him, there has been rapid progress made by the performance of ports in Indonesia residence time shorter than six years ago.
He said that six years ago the loading and unloading time at the port was one week, now it is two days. Unfortunately, Luhut didn’t mention which port he was referring to.
“I still remember that six years ago we had a fight residence time our shipping is still a week now we can already 2-2.5 days. This is the hard work of the (Ministry of Transport) and also of Pelindo and all the other stakeholders,” Luhut said at the Green Port Award event which was streamed virtually, Wednesday (28/12/2022) .
Due to improved port performance, Luhut has openly stated that Indonesia is the only country in Southeast Asia to be in the top 20 countries with the best port performance. This position is comparable to that of many developed countries in the world.
“We are the only country in Southeast Asia to feature in the top 20 with good port performance,” he said. Luhut.
Luhut’s list of the top 20 countries with the best port performance is based on data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The data is based on the average movement of container ships of 1,000 GT and more in the semester I-2022.
Indonesia is ranked 9th below Canada, Australia, Russia, United States, Germany, Greece, France and Italy. The average arrival of container ships based on UNCTAD data, in Indonesia is higher than the average for ports in the world.
The average movement in world ports reached 20.1 while Indonesia reached 24.9. The average achievement of completion time for container ships increased by 13.7% compared to 2020 and 2021.
Problem residence time was under the spotlight of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during his debut as president in mid-2015 and 2016. In the notes detik.comJokowi was once “angry” because he knew residence time to Tanjung Priok port very long touching 6-7 days.
“Services at Tanjung Priok Port, especially those related to residence time, we are among the longest,” Jokowi told reporters at the Nusantara Terminal of Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, on Wednesday (6/17/2015).
Since it’s a problem residence time become the star of Indonesian ports. But fortunately, Luhut claims that a solution has been found to the problem of loading and unloading times.
