Transfer News: Manchester United have officially signed Canada international Adriana Leon and given her a two-year contract.
Leon turned down the offer of a new contract at West Ham, where he spent three and a half seasons with the East London side, making 59 appearances and scoring 13 goals.
The versatile striker has 81 caps for Canada and was an integral part of the Olympic gold medal winning squad at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
He has scored 23 international goals and is one of Canada’s top 10 scorers of all time.
“I am very happy and honored to join this historic football club,” Leon told the club’s official website.
“Being the first Canadian player to play for Manchester United makes me proud and excited.
“I can’t wait to join this talented team and wear the famous red jersey.”
Man Utd Women manager Marc Skinner added: “Adriana is a player who will excite our fans and provide valuable experiences on and off the pitch.
“I was very impressed with Adriana’s character, as she expressed her confidence and courage when we discussed her coming to Manchester United.
“His versatility to play effectively in a variety of positions, while fiercely attacking and defending one-on-one, will add enormous variety to our growing squad.
“I look forward to working with Adriana as we journey to success in the future.”
