Manchester United welcome Canadian national team star Adriana Leon

Transfer News: Manchester United have officially signed Canadian international player Adriana Leon on a two-year contract.

Leon turned down a new contract offer at West Ham, where he spent three and a half seasons with the east London side, making 59 appearances and scoring 13 goals.

The versatile forward has 81 caps for Canada and was an integral part of the gold medal-winning team at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.

He scored 23 international goals and is among Canada’s top 10 all-time scorers.

“I am very happy and honoured to join this historic football club,” Leon told the club’s official website.

“Being the first Canadian player to play for Manchester United makes me proud and excited.

“I look forward to joining this talented team and wearing the famous red jersey.”

Man Utd women’s manager Marc Skinner added: “Adriana is a player who will excite our fans and provide valuable experience on and off the pitch.

“I was very impressed with Adriana’s character as she expressed confidence and courage when we discussed her coming to Manchester United.

“His versatility in playing effectively in a variety of positions, whilst also attacking and defending one-on-ones with ferocity, will add enormous variety to our ever-improving squad.

“I look forward to working with Adriana as we move forward towards future success.”
