Jakarta (ANTARA) – Canada coach Jesse Marsch said his team will do their best to minimize Lionel Messi’s movements so that he does not “loiter” in his team’s defense zone during the Copa America 2024 semi-finals between Canada and Argentina in New Jersey, United States. Wednesday morning WIB.
Marsch said the semi-final match against Argentina was the most important game in Canadian football history, so he asked his team to maximize every opportunity to come away with a victory.
“We have some things that we are going to try to make things difficult for Messi. “We understand that limiting his space is the number one thing,” Marsch said, as reported by AFP on Tuesday.
“We didn’t allow him to run freely in our back line, let alone run in front of our goalkeeper,” the American coach said.

Canada lost 2-0 to Argentina in the first match of the Copa America 2024. However, Canada’s performance improved in the next match, beating Peru 1-0 and holding Chile 0-0.
Jesse Marsch’s troops then made history by qualifying for the semi-finals of the Copa America after holding Venezuela to a 1-1 draw and then winning 4-3 on penalties.
“We didn’t play well enough when we met Messi in the last game. He ran too freely towards our goalkeeper,” said the former DC United and Chicago Fire midfielder in the 1990s.
“For tomorrow we will not worry about him. But he will be our concern that will determine how we defend. Everything about him will be very important,” said the former Leeds United and RB Leipzig coach.
