Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – As many as 10 people have died and 15 others are hospitalized following a series of stabbing attacks in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. State Police said two suspects remained at large Sunday night (4/9/2022).

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) also said stabbings took place at 13 separate locations in James Smith’s Cree Nation and in the village of Weldon.

RCMP said the two suspects are Damien Sanderson (31) who is 170cm tall and weighs 70kg, and Myles Sanderson (30) who is approximately 180cm tall and weighs 90kg. Police believe the pair may have been driving a black Nissan Rogue.

Saskatchewan RCMP assistant commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said some of the victims appeared to be targeted by the suspects, but others appeared to have been randomly attacked. He couldn’t give a reason.

Blackmore said police began receiving reports just before 6 a.m. of stabbings in First Nations communities. Then there were more reports of attacks, so at noon police issued a warning that a vehicle apparently carrying the two suspects had been seen in Regina.

Police said the last information they had from the public was that the suspects were seen there around lunchtime. However, there have been no recent sightings of the two since then.

Regina Police Chief Evan Bray said Sunday night that the suspects are still at large, but police still believe the suspects are likely in the city of Regina.

The search for suspects was carried out as fans traveled to Regina for the annual sold-out Labor Day game between the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Regina Police Department said in a news release that with the assistance of the RCMP, they are working on multiple fronts to locate and apprehend suspects and have deployed additional public safety resources throughout the city, including including football matches at Mosaic Stadium.

The warning first issued by RCMP in Melfort, Saskatchewan at around 7 a.m. was extended hours later to cover Manitoba and Alberta as the two suspects remain at large.

As Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, “Today’s attack in Saskatchewan is horrifying and heartbreaking. My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and those who have been injured.”
