Verstappen recorded a time of 1:33:58.348 in the race which lasted 70 laps.
Verstappen started the race in pole position for the Canadian F1 GP and managed to be far ahead of the driver behind him with a distance of +9.570 from second place, namely Aston Martin team driver Fernando Alonso .
Mercedes team driver Lewis Hamilton had to settle for the third podium in this race, +14.168 from Verstappen. The fourth and fifth positions are occupied by the Ferrari duo, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The victory makes Verstappen record six wins from eight race series in 2023 and also his 41st victory, putting him on par with legendary racer Ayrton Senna’s record.
Verstappen, who started the race from pole position, drove smoothly and began to slowly open the distance. Meanwhile, Alonso and Hamilton repeatedly overtook each other throughout the race.
Another Mercedes driver, George Russell, failed to finish after crashing on lap 12, so the safety car had to be deployed. Many drivers took advantage of this situation to change tires during refueling.
The race resumed, the driver’s position only changed on lap 22 when Alonso managed to overtake Hamilton to take second place.
After that, Hamilton tried to hunt down Alonso. However, the Spanish rider managed to maintain his position until the finish.
Verstappen was in the lead from the start of the race, running smoothly without any rivals until he crossed the finish line. Leclerc and Sainz complete positions four and five in this race.
Meanwhile, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez finished the race in sixth position.
Verstappen admitted he was happy to take his sixth victory in 2023.
“Of course I’m very happy at the moment. It’s not an easy race because the grip of the tires is not good,” the Dutch driver told F1’s official website after the race.
“Today it was a lot colder than Friday and we had a bit of trouble controlling the car, but we managed it. To win again and take home the 100th Grand Prix for this team is incredible.”
When asked if he was hoping to get resistance from the other drivers, Verstappen replied that the condition of the tires was the reason the other drivers were not able to put pressure on him .
“First of all, I did a good job today, but it was very difficult because the tires were losing grip quickly.”
“That’s why the distance (from the other drivers) is not too great, and also because there are safety cars. But the most important thing is that we can win,” he said. -he continued.
F1 competition will return during the Austrian GP which will take place from July 30 to 2 at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg.
