F1 News: Oscar Piastri says he is optimistic about McLaren’s chances in the next Formula 1 race, amid a series of improvements the team will make.
The Woking-based team have had a rough start to the 2023 season with their car not performing as fast as expected.
Before the start of the year, the team admitted that it had not met the development goal for the MCL60 car and predicted that the start of the season would be difficult.
At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, McLaren performed its first major upgrade of the year to change the course of the car.
They will then add more parts at this weekend’s race in Austria and at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone next week.
“I haven’t driven in the simulators, so I don’t know what they look like,” Oscar Piastry told Canada.
“Hopefully it will be faster. It’s clear on the plan. I think we’re positive and optimistic about the new setup we have for Austria and Silverstone.
“We’ll have to wait and see, but I’m looking forward to racing it first in the simulator when I get the chance and then obviously on the real track as well.”
After picking up points last month at the Monaco Grand Prix, Piastri is aiming to get back into the top 10 at the Austrian race this weekend.
“I can’t wait to get back to the Red Bull Ring, this time in an F1 car,” he said.
“I liked the new Sprint format in Baku so I’m looking forward to experiencing it again this weekend and hope to bring some points back to the team.”
