Jakarta: MediaTek is preparing to demonstrate its new technology, the ability to perform two-way satellite communications on smartphones, at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will be held from February 27 to March 2.
A number of devices that will demonstrate semiconductor products that actually work will come from Motorola. The manufacturer will launch two satellite smartphones at the event, the defy 2 and the CAT S75, as well as a Bluetooth accessory equipped with a MediaTek chipset.
MediaTek’s answer to satellite technology from Qualcomm and Apple comes in the form of standalone chipsets that can be added to many 4G or 5G phones. This chipset uses the 3GPP non-terrestrial network standard instead of proprietary technology like Qualcomm and Apple.

This means that this chipset can be used with different networks that comply with these standards. MediaTek has partnered with a company called Bullit to use Bullit’s Satellite Connect service and enable the satellite messaging feature on the Motorola device.
Another difference is that this MediaTek chipset is connected to a satellite in geosynchronous equatorial orbit instead of a satellite in low earth orbit. The manufacturer says the technology not only sends emergency SOS messages like Apple’s features, but also two-way messages.
This means that this feature can actually receive messages sent over a satellite connection and not just send messages. The iPhone 14, which is the average device introduced by Apple’s satellite technology, cannot receive messages without traditional cellular connectivity.
During this time, devices using Qualcomm Snapdragon Satellite technology will need to be manually refreshed to receive new messages. For your information, Motorola defy 2 and the defy Bluetooth accessory will be released in the second quarter of this year in North America, Latin America and Canada.
These two devices will be the first devices to support MediaTek’s satellite capabilities. Previously, MediaTek released the latest Dimensity 7200 chipset. Of course, features have been added to make it easier for users.
One of the newer features it has is Ai-Imaging which helps users to take photos with more leverage. Another feature is optimization for playing games. This feature will allow users to play games much more comfortably and will also provide much longer lasting battery life. Another no less sophisticated feature is the 5G connection.
