Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas hosted the visit of Canadian Minister for Commerce, Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, Mary Ng and a delegation from the Residence of the Official Residence of the Minister of Religion , Widya Chandra Complex, Jakarta, on Saturday August 19, 2023.
Head of Halal Products Assurance Organization Agency (BPJPH) Aqil Irham, special staff of Minister of Religion Abdul Qodir and expert and spokesperson staff of Ministry of Religion Anna Hasbie also attended in the meeting.
On this occasion, the Minister of Religion discussed the strengthening of cooperation relations between Indonesia and Canada, especially in the areas of guaranteeing halal products and education.

In addition, the minister of religions aims to better understand the cooperation on halal product assurance between the two countries, as this meeting is a continuation of the previous meeting in 2022.
“What is more important is what we can help for Canada and vice versa for Indonesia. Because each country’s standards are of course different,” Yaqut said in a statement quoted from the official website. from the Ministry of Worship, Sunday August 20, 2023. .
Next, the Minister of Religion explained the 2024 plan in which imported products must have Halal certification before entering Indonesia. This is to protect society and harmonize standards between the two countries.
“In 2024, all products from overseas will no longer be able to enter Indonesia if they do not have halal certification. This is a form of state protection for the public. We hope our products will also be made easier to enter Canada,” Yaqut said.
Not to mention, the minister of religion also mentioned that education was an important aspect of this meeting. In this context, Indonesia hopes to send students to Canada, taking advantage of the opportunity to study abroad.
“We have four million students whom we encourage to study abroad, including in Canada. The issue of education is also very important. And the two countries can exchange promotions in the education sector” , Yaqut said.
Thus, Minister Mary Ng expressed her gratitude for the opportunity offered by the Ministry of Religion and wished that the two countries could support each other in the field of education.
“We really hope that this cooperation in the field of halal and education can materialize soon. Thank you for your time and we are very honored to be well received by the Minister of Religions and his staff,” said Mary Ng .
