The Moroccan national team proved that it was no coincidence that they exploded in the 2022 World Cup.
Morocco regained the lead thanks to Abdelhamed Sabri’s goal in the 79th minute. The score of 2-1 lasted until the fight broke out.
The match was the third encounter between Morocco and Brazil. In the two previous matches, Morocco always lost and conceded more than one goal.
The first duel took place on October 9, 1997 in a friendly match. Morocco lost 0-2. Denilson scored two goals for Brazil.
Then the second match, Morocco lost 0-3 and into the Group A stage of the 1998 World Cup.
Morocco itself performed a miracle at the 2022 World Cup. Walid Reragui’s team qualified for the semi-finals. Morocco met Croatia, Belgium and Canada in Group A and qualified to win the group.
Morocco are also undefeated in the group stage. In the round of 16, Morocco surprisingly brought back Spain on penalties 3-0 (0-0). Morocco also sent Portugal home in the quarter-finals, after winning 1-0.
However, Morocco lost 0-2 to defending champions France. Then lost 1-2 in the match for third place against Croatia 1-2.
During the Morocco-Brazil match, Soufiane Boufal (29) was crowned best player. Boufal not only scored goals but also diligently created chances for the Brazilian defense.
Boufal scored the opener in the 29th minute. His ability to execute chances through the hard work of his colleagues made the match a success for Morocco. Throughout his 77 minutes on the pitch, Boufal was a reliable frontline creator. He is also an active presser.
Boufal in this match was much more prominent than his other two colleagues on the front line, Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri. Boufal’s main ability is to create chances. The Al-Rayyan player was able to create a total of three chances including the goals he scored. Morocco, which uses a high press system, can rely heavily on Boufal to become a press employee. *
