Jakarta –
MPR RI Vice President Fadel Muhammad said that MPR RI would hold an international conference to establish the MPR Global Forum. This agenda is a form of support for the MPR RI during the next G20 event.
The activities of this international conference will then be followed by the presidents of the Consultative Assembly, the Shura Council or similar institutions of the Member States of Islamic Cooperation. It is known that the international conference will be held in Bandung for two days from October 24 to 26, 2022.
“This (organization of an international conference within the framework of the establishment of the Global MPR Forum) is a form of support for Indonesia as the G20 Presidency,” Fadel said after attending the “Discussion with netizens” in Bandung, Saturday (10/22/2022).
For the first time, Indonesia holds the presidency of the Group of 20 (G20). The activities of the G20 represent global economic and political power with membership covering 80% of global GDP, 75% of global exports and 60% of global population. G20 members are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, People’s Republic of China (PRC), France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey and the United Kingdom. , the United States of America and the European Union.
According to Fadel, the G20 meeting or summit (KTT) is not only a meeting of Heads of State (executive), but also meetings attended by parliamentary (legislative) leaders, such as the G20 Parliamentary Leaders Meeting ( P20) some time ago.
“We want the G20 meeting not only between the executives but also the legislature (parliament) to be involved in the activities of the G20. Thus, we organize an international conference in which the heads of the consultative assembly or shuro assembly of Member States of Islamic Cooperation in Bandung from October 24 to 26, ahead of the G20 summit in Bali in December,” Fadel explained.
Fadel hopes that by organizing this international conference in which the presidents of the deliberative assembly or shuro assembly participate, the Indonesian MPR will have international relations in the parliamentary field, in particular for the upper house.
“Thus, our main goal is to support Indonesia’s G20 Presidency, and furthermore, we hope that the establishment of this MPR Global Forum will become a legacy for the current and future MPR RI,” he said.
Furthermore, Fadel said that the MPR Global Forum or another name agreed upon later would not overlap with existing parliamentary forums.
“Later we will see the form of this forum so that it does not overlap with other parliamentary forums. The MPR Global Forum, or another name to be agreed by the presidents of the consultative assembly or shuro assembly of member states of Islamic Cooperation, will further discuss inter-assembly cooperation, deliberations and world peace issues,” he said.
He added that the establishment of the Global RPM Forum has received support from member states of Islamic Cooperation. They also agreed to send representatives to attend the meeting.
“When we (the leaders of the MPR) invited the ambassadors of the member states of the Islamic cooperation some time ago, they supported the establishment of this Global Forum of the MPR and they agreed to invite the heads of the consultative assemblies or shuro assemblies from their respective countries to attend international conferences in Bandung,” Fadel continued.
For this activity, the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia invited more than 50 countries to chair the deliberative assembly or shuro assembly of the member countries of Islamic cooperation. Fadel said a number of countries have confirmed their attendance.
“Hopefully all countries can attend,” he hoped.
Besides various member countries of the Islamic Cooperation, the international conferences within the framework of the establishment of the MPR Forum have also received support from various parties, including the Ministry of Public Enterprises.
“The MPR leadership met with the Minister of SOE, Erick Thohir, who supported the holding of an international conference as part of the establishment of this MPR Global Forum. We hope that the holding of this international conference in attended by the heads of the deliberative assembly or shuro assembly of member states of Islamic cooperation can proceed smoothly,” Fadel concluded.
