Since February, Netflix has offered paid account sharing in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA—Netflix will fight hard against account sharing in the United States (US). The company in the first quarter launched paid sharing in four countries and is pleased with the results.

“We expect a broad rollout, including in the United States, in the second quarter,” the company said. EngadgetThursday (4/20/2023).

Since February, Netflix has offered paid account sharing in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain. This allows the primary account holder to pay additional fees each month for sharing services netflix up to two people outside their homes.

As the primary account owner, you can still watch on your phone and sign in to services on devices outside your home, such as smart TVs in hotels. Netflix also allows secondary users to convert their profiles into new accounts.

“Netflix accounts are intended to be shared within the same household (people living in the same location as the account owner),” the company said.

However, people who are not in the same household as you will need to create their own account to watch Netflix.

In the past, Netflix estimated that more than 100 million non-paying households accessed its service through free account sharing. The company says this practice limits its ability to invest in new content.

Please also note that the decision to limit account sharing will most likely result in cancellation. The expansion of paid account sharing comes the same day Netflix announced it would be shutting down its DVD rental business in September.
