Netflix starts banning account password sharing

Jakarta

netflix will start cracking down on users sharing passwords in the United States (US). The company has emailed all of its customers in Uncle Sam’s Country not to share passwords with anyone outside their household.

Netflix has long planned to limit the sharing of passwords. In its message to customers, the company said Netflix accounts are only used for people who live together.

“Your Netflix account is for you and the people who live with you, your household,” the email reads. CNNWednesday (24/5/2023).

To share an account with someone outside the home, the user can transfer the profile to a new subscription. They pay or add additional members to their account for an additional $7.99 per month.

netflix had previously turned a blind eye to the password-sharing phenomenon as it fueled business growth. However, last year the company said it would crack down on password sharing.

It is estimated that more than 100 million households worldwide share a Netflix account. The company began restricting password sharing in several countries earlier this year, including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.

netflix recently reported a net increase of 1.75 million global streaming subscribers in the first quarter, up nearly 5% from the same period a year earlier.
