SULSELSATUM.com, MAKASSAR – The Air Quality Technology Company (IQAir) has named New York City the city with the worst air quality levels in the world.
This was due to smoke from fires that occurred in Canadian forests and caused poor air quality in New York City on June 7, 2023.
Quoted by Molanews, New York City Mayor Eric Adams called on all his people not to engage in excessive activity outside the home due to inclement weather.
“This is probably the first time we’ve had something like this of this magnitude,” Mayor Eric Adams said.
Smoke from forest fires in Canada contains small particles or PM2.5, these particles can damage the respiratory tract if inhaled.
The point for unhealthy air quality is between 151 and 200, currently the air quality index in New York has reached 179, which is included in the unhealthy category.
California medical expert Dr. Mark Shapiro suggested people wear N-95 masks, minimize time outdoors, wash their hands and face, and turn on their headlights when driving.
City officials said they expected the warning to remain in effect for the next few days, but added that it was very difficult to predict smoky conditions.
