Norris and Alonso lead Canadian GP FP1 and FP2 sessions – BeritaKaltim.Co

BERITAKALTIM.CO – McLaren driver Lando Norris and Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso respectively led the free practice sessions (FP) 1 and 2 of the Canadian Grand Prix held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Saturday WIB.

In the first practice session, Norris, who recorded the best time of 1 minute 25.435 seconds, was ahead of the Ferrari duo, namely Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc with a time margin of 0.328 seconds and 0.871 seconds respectively.

Behind them are reigning champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), as well as Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri.

Moving on to the second practice session which was more difficult due to the heavy rain that hit Montreal, Alonso recorded a best lap of 1 minute 15.810 seconds to beat George Russell (Mercedes) by 0.462 seconds in a session which saw Red Bull’s hat-trick Reigning world champion Verstappen is back in trouble.

The Dutchman managed just four laps and jumped from his smoking car into the pits midway through the session, leaving few clues as to what would happen in qualifying or the main race.

Local driver Lance Stroll (Aston Martin) finished third, just ahead of Leclerc, Daniel Ricciardo (RB), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Hamilton.

Yuki Tsnuoda (RB) finished eighth, ahead of Alex Albon (Williams) and Sergio Perez (Red Bull) in 10th.

Meanwhile, the Canadian GP series will continue with FP3 today at 11:30 p.m. for one hour and end on Sunday (9/6) at 00:30 WIB.

The qualifying session to find the starting position will be played on Sunday (9/6) from 03:00 to 04:00 WIB. Meanwhile, the 70-lap main race session will be played on Monday (10/6) at 01:00 WIB.

Entering the ninth series of F1, Verstappen currently leads the standings with 169 points. The Dutch driver is 31 points ahead of Lecrerc in second and Lando Norris in third with 56 points ahead.

In the constructors’ standings, Red Bull leads the standings with 276 points, 24 points ahead of Ferrari in second place and 94 points ahead of McLaren in third place. #
