England won the U-17 World Cup title after beating Spain 5-2 in the final round, which was held at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata, India, Sunday (29/10) WIB.
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Brazil, Italy and Germany are the teams that have won the most World Cups for the senior category, but in the U-17 World Cup, the team that often wins trophies is not them .
The team that has won the U-17 World Cup the most times is Nigeria. The Africa team has won the trophy five times, namely in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015. Brazil is the second team that has won the U-17 World Cup the most times, namely in 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2019.
Ghana and Mexico have won twice each. Ghana won it in 1991 and 1995. Mexico won the trophy in 2005 and 2011.
Meanwhile, five countries have won the title once, namely France (2001), Russia (1987), Saudi Arabia (1989), Switzerland (2009) and England (2017). In the English team that won in 2017, there is Phil Foden who in 2024 made Manchester City win triple as well as Manchester United mainstay Jadon Sancho.
While Spain qualified four times for the final but never won. Likewise with Germany who have never won. This European team qualified once for the final (1985) but did not win finalist because it was conquered by Nigeria.
The reigning U-17 World Cup champions are Brazil who managed to lift the 2019 U-17 World Cup trophy when they hosted it. In the final, they beat Mexico 2-1.
Indonesia is the only Asian representative to have confirmed they will take part in the U-17 World Cup which is scheduled to be held in November-December 2023.
Indonesia have been confirmed as having a ticket to participate in this age group championship after being nominated to host the U-17 World Cup by FIFA on Friday (23/6/2023) yesterday. This was revealed by FIFA via their Twitter account. “Indonesia is confirmed to host the U-17 World Cup.” Once FIFA announced via Twitter.
The other Asian representatives will only be determined after the Asian U-17 Cup which takes place in Thailand from June 15 to July 2. Indonesia did not qualify for the event in Thailand as in the qualifying round they only held second place in Group A after Malaysia.
In the qualifying round from October 1-9, 2022 at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor, Indonesia actually brilliantly beat Guam 14-0, conquered the United Arab Emirates 3-2 and defeated Palestine 2-0. But in the last match, they lost 1-5 to Malaysia. Indonesia was only perched in position finalist with 9 points gained lost by Malaysia which collected 10 points.
However, the appointment of Indonesia as hosts allowed the red and white team to qualify for the final round of the U-17 World Cup. This event will bring together 24 participants. In addition to the Asian representatives, 19 other teams have confirmed their presence.
The 19 participants who have confirmed their presence in Indonesia from November 10 to December 2 are: from Africa, namely Burkina Faso, Mali, Morocco, Senegal; from North and Central America, namely Canada. Mexico, Panama and the United States; South America, namely Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela; Oceania: New Caledonia and New Zealand; and Europe, namely England, France, Germany, Poland and Spain.
