F1 News: In Monaco, Oscar Piastri shone with a 2nd place, in the previous GP at Imola, he finished fourth. In Canada, he hopes that his good results will continue.
Oscar Piastri had to cede victory in the prestigious Monte Carlo Grand Prix to local hero Charles Leclerc. Yet the young Australian from the McLaren team was still happy when he crossed the line in second place behind the Ferrari star. Looking back, he says enthusiastically:
“Monaco is very special, it was evident all day there and to fight for the podium in Ayrton Senna’s colours on that street circuit was just sensational.”
“I dreamed of racing in Monaco when I was a kid in Australia, so it’s something very special for me to be on the podium at this classic GP,” said the 23-year-old from Melbourne, who is currently sixth in the World Championship standings.
In Monte Carlo, the 30-time GP participant managed to break into the top three for the first time this year – in his rookie season, he already achieved this feat twice in Sunday’s race. He is satisfied with his latest performance:
“I’m very pleased with the consistency I’ve been able to show over the last three race weekends. Progress is never linear, but I really enjoy showing my abilities in this car.”
In Canada, McLaren expects a track that will be more difficult to dominate. Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris warned with a look at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve:
“Our car has performed well on different circuits, but we know we have a lot of work to do in Canada. Our competition will probably be strong here.”
Nevertheless, Piastri hopes to be able to perform again. “I hope we can continue where we left off, because the first place is very competitive. And we want more,” he dared to declare war.
