Elshinta.com – Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al-Shun said that Indonesia supports and always supports Palestine.
“There is no doubt that Indonesia has always been there, always supported behind us (Palestine). Indonesia has a major presence with Palestine and does not pretend about it,” said Ambassador Zuhair Al- Shun in his statement in Jakarta, Friday evening (5/19).
Ambassador Al-Shun delivered the statement on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Palestinian Nakba Day organized by the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta.
He said the 75th anniversary of Nakba Day commemorates the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and lands in 1948, after the founding of Israel.
For this reason, Ambassador Al-Shun said that the international community must work hard to help Palestine.
“The international community has a responsibility in this regard. They should change (their) policy now and come up with a plan to deal with this crisis and this problem,” he said.
He also mentioned that the international community should help put an end to the human rights violations committed by Israel.
“The international community must take the necessary steps to help put an end to Israel’s human rights violations and war crimes,” Ambassador Al-Shun said.
On the same occasion, the expert staff for inter-agency relations of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Muhsin Syihab, said that Indonesia provides strong support and shows solidarity with the government and the Palestinian people.
“As President Joko Widodo said in his message, this commemoration should be a boost to rekindle support for the Palestinian cause,” Muhsin said.
Muhsin said Palestine needs concrete and impactful actions to end the Israeli occupation in order to move towards a peaceful solution.
Furthermore, Muhsin hopes that the commemoration of Nakba Day will become a moment to unite all Palestinian people.
“Let this remind us that we must continue to redouble our efforts for the Palestinian people to enjoy a just and lasting peace, free from occupation and oppression,” Muhsin said.
For the first time this year, the United Nations (UN) officially commemorated the 75th anniversary of Palestinian Nakba Day which falls on May 15 at UN headquarters in New York, after a resolution passed in November 2022.
However, the United States, Canada, Britain and dozens of other countries opposed the adoption of the UN resolution on the commemoration of Nakba Day.
