Despite the defeat, the Moroccan national team is increasingly loved. President of the United States (US) Joe Biden is no exception.
Biden even watched the Morocco v France semi-final match with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch on Thursday (12/15).
Akhannouch’s noble deed was carried out during a trip to Washington to attend the US-Africa summit this week, as published Morocco World News.
“No matter who you support, it’s amazing how this (Moroccan) team is doing,” Biden wrote on Twitter.
In his tweet, Biden also uploaded a photo of himself watching the match with Akhannouch, as well as African leaders, such as Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Moroccan national team lost to France 2-0 in the semi-finals. However, the appearance of the Atlas Lions caught the attention of millions of football fans around the world.
Morocco set a historic record by conceding just three goals in a world competition. One of the bad goals was scored by his player, Nayef Aguerd, during Morocco against Canada in the group stage.
The Moroccan national team also made international headlines by being the first Arab and African nation to qualify for the semi-finals in World Cup history.
After their defeat against France, Morocco will now occupy third place in the match against Croatia on Saturday (17/12).
